Congressional (Paid) Internship Program - $2500 for 8 weeks in the summer or $3750 for 12 weeks

Description

The Congressional Internship Program provides college students with a paid Congressional work placement on Capitol Hill for a period of twelve weeks (Spring/Fall) or eight weeks (Summer). This unmatched experience allows students to learn first hand about our nation's legislative process.

Promising Latino undergraduates from across the country are selected for this leadership training program. Students gain work experience, participate in a community service project, and receive educational and professional programming provided by CHCI. This comprehensive three-prong approach provides extraordinary learning and networking opportunities for students.

Application Deadlines for the 2011 Congressional Internship Programs:

* Spring 2011 Congressional Internship Program Deadline: November 5, 2010
* Summer 2011 Congressional Internship Program Deadline: February 4, 2011
* Fall 2011 Congressional Internship Program Deadline: April 29, 2011

Work Authorization

U.S. Permanent Resident, U.S. Citizen

Salary Level

$2500 for 8 weeks in the summer or $3750 for 12 weeks in Fall or Spring

Qualification

Program Requirements - Interns must

* Work a minimum of 32 hours a week in congressional office assignment
* Participate in all CHCI-sponsored activities
* Attend one-week orientation and weekly leadership development sessions
* Participate in the community service project
* Comply with CHCI policies regarding work performance and personal conduct


Eligibility Criteria

* Students currently enrolled full time working towards their undergraduate degree
Note: Individuals that will graduate in May/June 2011 are NOT eligible for the Summer session. However, these individuals are eligible to participate in the Spring 2011 session.
* High academic achievement (preference of 3.0 GPA or above)
* Strong analytical and writing skills
* Active participation in public and/or community service activities
* U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency


Selection Process
The selection process is competitive. CHCI receives five applications for every one available internship opportunity. CHCI processes applications to identify the most qualified candidates. Applications are reviewed by a selection committee composed by Alumni, Board of Directors and CHCI staff. A selected number of applicants are chosen based on the quality of their application.

HACU seeking students for its national internship program

Paid internships often lead to federal government and corporate employment

San Antonio, TX –The HACU National Internship Program , the nation’s largest Hispanic internship program, is accepting applications from college and university students for internships taking place January 13 - April 30, 2011. Deadline to apply is Nov. 4. Applications for summer internships are also being accepted until Feb. 25, 2011. APPLY HERE

Students accepted into the program participate in paid internships with federal and corporate offices in Washington, DC and across the nation. Internships are offered in the spring, summer and fall.

“Providing students with the opportunities to help them succeed beyond college and prepare them to enter the professional world after graduation is incredibly valuable,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “The HACU National Internship Program continues to fulfill its mission of opening doors of opportunity by providing students a chance to earn an income and also make professional connections for future corporate and federal employment.”

Throughout the years, the HACU National Internship Program has helped many students gain employment. So far this year, HACU has known of eight students who have received offers of employment in the federal government. Last year 15 students were placed in internships with Deloitte and 8 others with Sodexo, Lockheed Martin, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. “Successful corporate interns almost always receive a job offer upon graduation," said Flores.

The HACU National Internship Program places more than 600 students in paid internships annually. These internships provide talented Hispanic and other minority students with the opportunity to develop their career and professional skills and receive financial support to help motivate students through graduation. The HACU National Internship Program has placed more than 9,000 students in internships since its inception in 1992.
